In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to create a glossy gold text effect in Photoshop. We will create the effect using a simple brush and a couple of layer styles.
To create a glossy gold text effect, you’ll need:
Create a new 1000 x 800px document, duplicate the background layer and fill it with #452c16.
We will now add a texture to the background by double-clicking on the duplicate background layer and applying the layer style shown below.
Now, place the Damask texture on top of the background layers, resize it if necessary and change its blending mode to Overlay.
Write your text using the False Positive font, 430pt size and #b37a37 color.
Make a duplicate of the text tips for blackjack at casinoscapital.com/casino-games-guide/blackjack/tips layer and lower its Fill value to 0%.
We will now create the first text effect with the bright, shiny parts by double-clicking on the original text layer and applying the layer styles shown below.
Now to make the text all glossy and velvety, double-click on the duplicate text layer and apply the layer styles shown below.
Cmd/ctrl-click on any one of the text layer to create a selection, make a new layer between the two text layers and name it “Texture”.
Set #432c17 as the background color and #ffac19 as the foreground color and go to Filter > Render > Clouds. Then, remove the selection by going to Select > Deselect.
Now, go to Filter > Filter > Gallery, choose Halftone Pattern from the Sketch folder and use the settings shown below.
Lower the Texture layer’s opacity to around 90% and change its blending mode to Soft Light.
Grab the Brush Tool and go to Window > Brush. Select the Star 14 pixels brush and change its settings as shown below.
Right-click on the text layer and select Create Work Path. Then, create a new layer above the original text layer, name it “Sparkles”, grab the Direct Selection Tool and set #fff1d8 as the foreground color.
Right-click on the work path, select Stroke Path and use the settings shown below. Then, press Return/Enter to remove the path.
Change the blending mode of the Sparkles layer to Vivid Light.
And we’re done with the glossy gold text effect!
